WEIGHT LOSS QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Dr. Lambrou answers some basic questions and helps lead you to solutions.
Do you over-eat in the evenings?
About 80 percent of overweight people have their most difficult times in the evening. Here’s a suggestion: create a special ritual to transition from work to home or dinner time to help shake off daily stress build-up, maybe stop after work for a few minutes at a park, the beach or lake shore and reflect on the day and then let it go. After dinner drink some warm tea or even some bouillon if you get antsy to eat and keep busy. Develop a way to go to sleep an hour earlier and you’ll have less time for boredom and cravings. We have a special part of the program to address evening grazing or binging. If you would like to learn additional ways to avoid evening overeating the Smart Techniques ™ program may be the next step for you.

Do you eat when you’re bored, lonely, or not hungry?
Emotional eating occurs from many sources and causes us to eat for comfort. It is important to have a variety of stress reduction tools that you can use in a range of everyday situations. While slow deep breathing is one effective method, and other breathing exercises can be even more powerful, something as simple making yourself smile for 10 or 20 seconds flips an internal switch that lightens our mood and lifts our spirits, in spite of ourselves. These and more extensive de-stressing tools are provided in a comprehensive program. Contact Dr. Lambrou about how hypnotherapy, Acupressure for the Emotions, or individual consultation can be arranged for one or more sessions to achieve your goals.

Is it nearly impossible to say “No” to temptation foods?
For some people it is like an addiction to certain foods and they feel compelled to have some. Chocolate, baked goods, French fries, ice cream, pizza, or just about any food can be a temptation food.. Breaking that compulsive pattern can be a challenge, but the keys are recognize the feeling that comes just before the compulsion (it may be desire, fear of losing out, deserving pleasure, or any emotion), it is only when you take awareness of the sequence that you can change the pattern. Then become aware of your thoughts associated with the feeling. If you feel desire, your mind may automatically think ‘deserving, entitled, reward’ or other thought that supports the next step – action. You now reach for or accept the temptation food and before you can say ‘Oops’ you’ve done it again. A special audio CD reprogramming called New Perspective Weight Loss Imagery systematically creates new and productive feelings, realistic thoughts, and healthy action patterns that can eventually become virtually automatic subconscious routines. Have you lost weight before then gained it all back or even more?
Yo yo dieting can be harmful to your health and can contribute to the development of Type 2 Diabetes. Making a commitment not to ‘diet’ but to change your life is the first step to the last diet you’ll ever be on. Rather than a temporary change, dedication to do what is necessary to change your life is a necessary ingredient. There is a saying, ‘You don’t think your way to a new way of living. You live your way to a new way of thinking.’ So if you can’t believe in your own success, if you’ve lost your hope for a way out of an old cycle, commit yourself to one action each day that you will change. Take it slow and do that one new and healthy action for a month every day you can, at least 5 times a week. You will see a small change and it won’t be that hard, say that you commit to taking a 10 minute walk at lunchtime every work day, or you commit to yourself that you will drink a diet beverage instead of a sugary one (even though you don’t like the taste). One small change each month until you gather the momentum to take the next step and develop a program for yourself or work with a qualified specialist to help you. Dr. Lambrou will be happy to discuss the options for that guidance and support during an introductory Free Telephone or In-Office Consultation.
